How Many Websites Would You Use To Fight On The Net?

internet marketing blog

Hotmail, Google, Yahoo, eBay took at least from 1.8 years to 2 years to become popular on the Web.

Today, Google reported at least 8 billion pages in its inventory, all competing for the attention of at least 295 million people.

What is your chance to get your due attention?

Strategists would say it’s all about strategy. Marketers would say it will depend on how consistently you promote your website and brand.

I have no quarrel with these 2 people. I agree with them. In fact, I’ll add another one.

When I launched our Online Travel website, I have the luck to possess thematic websites of 3-4 pages only. I made them since 1999 and went neglected after a long time.

For newbies, a thematic website can be a 1-page, but usually 3-5 pages, website with a certain specific topic or theme, i.e. business, lifestyle, money, etc.

I just redesigned the pages to look more professional and updated.

Eventually, I launched 8 interlinked websites – some sort of a webring. The only new website for promotion from scratch is http://www.philippine-resorts.com/

For a new client, I made one website for his product, made another website (a management portal), and activated 3 thematic websites, for a total of 5 websites.

The main product website can get its target prospects directly from our internet promotions.

It also gets highly-qualified visitors from the other 4 websites – the management portal and the 3 thematic websites.

During the lean months of 1-3 months after launching, the main website can instantly get visitors from the 3 thematic websites.

It usually takes 6-8 weeks for other Top 22 search engines/directories to include your website in their search results. So, you can’t be found immediately after launching.

In summary, increase your odds of winning with this kind of tactics. You have 1 year to accomplish this tactic, if you still don’t have the other types of websites in your inventory – a portal and thematic websites.

You can establish joint ventures or collaboration with the owners of these different types of websites.

Sony Video Chief Admits Strategic Mistakes

internet marketing blog

By YURI KAGEYAMA

TOKYO (AP) - Sony missed out on potential sales from MP3 players and other gadgets because it was overly proprietary about music and entertainment content, the head of Sony Corp.'s video-game unit acknowledged Thursday.

Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said he and other Sony employees have been frustrated for years with management's reluctance to introduce products like Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod, mainly because the Tokyo company had music and movie units that were worried about content rights.

Now, Sony's divisions are finally beginning to work together and share a common agenda, Kutaragi said at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Tokyo.

``It's just starting,'' he told reporters. ``We are growing up.''

High-ranking Sony officials have rarely publicly said their proprietary views were a mistake.

Kutaragi, who has long been viewed as a candidate to lead Sony, was unusually direct in acknowledging Sony had made an error and blaming proprietary concerns from its entertainment division.

Sony's music players initially did not support MP3 files and only played Sony's own format called Atrac.

Kutaragi said Sony's original spirit of innovative technology had grown ``diluted.''

``We have to concentrate on our original nature - challenging and creating,'' he said.

Once the powerhouse of global electronics, exemplified in its Walkman, Sony has lost some of its glamour lately, losing out in profitability and market share to cheaper Asian rivals.

Kutaragi - known as the ``Father of the PlayStation'' for making the game machine a pillar of Sony's business - said the new handheld, PSP or PlayStation Portable, will grow into a global platform for enjoying music and movies as well as games.

Sony is boosting production to one million a month this spring to keep up with demand for the PlayStation Portable, which has sold 800,000 since going on sale Dec. 12 in Japan, Kutaragi said. It is set to go on sale in the United States and Europe this spring.

Who Should Lead Your Team?

internet marketing blog

There were 2 factors that I considered in making this recommendation.

The first factor is the current reality that “Content is King” again.

The previous “in” thing is search engine optimization (SEO).

Search engines now really love websites that have a lot of good content, then, rank them high.

Don't forget your visitors who would really appreciate new content.

Search engines often visit these websites every 3-5 days to index their new content vs. other stale websites (1-2 months).

Why do you think weblogs became popular in 2004? It’s because of their continuously updated content.

A simple tip for you: the url link of your website must be found in these often-visited websites.

Therefore, a Content Provider can be the leader of your Team.

But I have not yet finished the second factor.

The nature of the Web is essentially content publishing. Agree or not, I don’t have any quarrel with you.

Pick up a newspaper or a magazine. Then, simply imagine that your medium is the Web.

Therefore, the leader of your Team is the person who knows what good content that can be provided to his/her target market.

He is called the Web Publisher, the equivalent of the Publisher in print media.

Woe to companies that selected pure “techies” as their Team Leaders.

How To Really Earn Big On The Internet

internet marketing blog

A client once asked me about what I think on his idea of creating a website on a particular subject matter.

My reply: "I see a website that you could sell in millions later."

Just recently this week, I cut short my lawyer-friend discussing dividends that the directors can get from the shares I gave them in my consultancy.

They were all surprised to learn that they won’t have to wait for years to earn from “our thing.”

All of them were not industry insiders but even industry insiders don’t know about this obvious secret.

Remember Hotmail?

Co-founders, Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith, launched Hotmail free email service in July 4, 1996.

They delivered the qualities consumers really want in an e-mail service: speed, reliability, ease of use and a rich set of features.

In just 2-1/2 years after its launch, Hotmail is the world's largest email service, with more than 30 million active members.

Then, Microsoft purchased Hotmail in 1998 and it’s now known as MSN Hotmail.

Financial terms of the deal, other than the fact that it was a stock-swap transaction, were not disclosed, but one industry executive speculated that the value of the deal was as high as $400 million.

What’s the lesson I’m trying to convey to start-ups? This Hotmail model can still happen.

You can still publish on the Web, make the service (website) very popular and then sell later in millions.

Your one task left is to formulate an effective strategy and acquire the internet marketing skills to make your website popular.

If you don’t have them yet, I am telling all my prospects to engage the experts right at the very start and not to scrimp on their fees.

You can engage me for this task as Coach, Consultant, or Trainer. Click here now
