RP joining ASEAN in China initiative; Nanning Expo set

internet marketing blog

The Philippine government, through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), has initiated moves to secure and increase its share of the China market, with the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) now organizing the Philippine participation in China ASEAN Expo (CAExpo) in Nanning City, Guangxi province, in Southern China this November.

CITEM said preparations for the event are being coordinated with the Board of Investments (BoI), the Bureau of Export Trade Promotion, the Foreign Trade Service Corps, the Bureau of International Trade Relations, and the Departments of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Trade and Industry (DTI), and Tourism (DoT).

DTI Undersecretary Thomas G. Aquino said the Philippines is now ready to approach the Chinese market on all fronts.

"Our alliances with other ASEAN member countries provide a window of opportunity to advance Philippine interests in China," he added.

China was the Philippines’ No. 6 trading partner in 2003, accounting for 5.38 percent of Philippine trade, a 58 percent increase over the previous year’s volume. China was the country’s No. 8 export market, accounting for 5.99 percent of total Philippine exports (US$2.14 billion). It was the country’s 6th supplier of imports, accounting for 4.79 percent of total Philippine imports (US$1.79 billion) last year.

ASEAN and Chinese leaders jointly signed last year the Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between China and ASEAN. The trade accord seeks to establish the China ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA), which could become the world’s biggest trade bloc with a combined consumer market of 1.7 billion people.

It is expected to dramatically increase China ASEAN trade volume, which has continuously exceeded the projected annual growth rate of 15 percent over the last 10 years.

Leaders of China and ASEAN agreed during the 7th China-ASEAN Summit to hike their trade volume target to US$100 billion in 2005. This development, Aquino said, opens up exciting prospect for both the Philippines and China in bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao proposed the CAExpo in Nanning as a common trade promotion platform for member economies to fast track the establishment of the trade bloc, reports said.

The initial CAExpo edition is slated Nov. 3-6 at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center whose completion is now being rushed. It is jointly led by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China’s Ministry of Commerce and Trade, and the trade ministries of ASEAN member countries.

Philippine participation in the event will be highlighted by an integrated country presentation in the National Hall, where China and the other ASEAN member countries will also have their own pavilions. CITEM is likewise bringing to CAExpo Philippine companies exploring China as a possible market for the first time, and established companies eyeing expansion in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, an emerging industrial center.

Participating Philippine companies will be housed in another Philippine Pavilion located at the Commodities Trade Hall, alongside their Chinese and ASEAN counterparts.

China-ASEAN bilateral trade reached US$54.77 billion in 2002, a 31.7 percent hike over the previous year’s figure. The trade volume between the two sides hit US$78.26 billion in 2003, up 42.8 percent from the previous year’s volume. ASEAN has become China’s 5th largest trading partner.

Where to start marketing your website

internet marketing blog

Question posted by Mr. John McCartney at http://www.forum.ph under Business: Online Entrepreneurship Category

Q: I got a web site and am wanting to start marketing it but don't know where to start and what's effective.

A: You have 2 general choices: publicity and advertising. The latter can cost you money but it really pays dividends. I’m just concerned with your marketing budget.

That leaves you with the publicity option, on a shoestring type of operation.

I always recommend submission to search engines and directories.

There are 3 categories: Local or country-specific, Regional; i.e. North America, Asia, Europe, etc; and lastly International or worldwide. There are at least 22 international/major search engines in the world.

You must be able to determine the geographical specifics of your product displayed in your website.

Newbies get at least 70% of their visitors from search engines. This can be for a very long time, as long as your website is live on the Web.

Veteran imarketers only get 30% from them. This means that they have progressed to at least 18 kinds of imarketing promotions.

Therefore, submission to search engines and directories is just for starter.

What’s the most effective promotion, out of the 18+ promotions? It’s another discussion and a very long one.
Suffice it to say that it’s email marketing. That’s if you already have a reliable list that you can’t be accused of spamming.

Travel and Tourism Venture

internet marketing blog

I’ve been building a lot of online businesses since 1999, one at a time, i.e. web publishing, real estate, etc..

I’ll also venture to other businesses, as the opportunity presents itself.

Just recently, I’ve activated a travel/tourism website called Philippine Resorts at http://www.philippine-resorts.com

Visit this website and see where we can collaborate.

I really would like to ask your help on the ff:

1. Joint venture, products and services. If you have a Philippine resort, inn, hotel, restaurant, tour packages, and travel-related products and services (even non-Philippine) that we can upsell/cross-sell to online customers.

2. Advertise. If you prefer to advertise in our travel website rather than share us commissions.

3. Board of Advisers (3). If you have a reliable knowledge or experience in the travel/tourism industry.

4. Angel Investors. Company shares will be offered in the immediate future.

5. Reciprocal link exchange. If you have a travel-related website, let’s post each others’ link.

6. We welcome unsolicited advices regarding our website at http://www.philippine-resorts.com

If none fits your present situation, don’t worry. There’ll be more co-ventures that I’ll be creating in the immediate future. Just make yourself available.
